Dark horse draft picks you wouldn’t hate
By this point, we all know the vague target picks for day 1+2. QB, Center, WR and edge in some order with BPA after that. What are deviations from that conventional wisdom that, if it happened, would instantly make sense in your mind? Here’s mine:
Jahmyr Gibbs at 33. Especially if we draft Bryce Young, this would make a ton of sense to me, even though it’s crazy high for a RB considering our needs. Gibbs’ closest comp in the league is Christian McCaffrey in terms of style and measurables. That clearly works in a 49ers style offense. It also provides lightning to Pierce’s thunder. Add Singletary and our running back stable will be among the best in the league. Never tired and always fighting for play time. We would have an identity for the first time in a long time. Finally, it would give Bryce his favorite target from ’21 (Metchie) and ’22 on the roster to provide instant chemistry. Again, it’s absurdly high to draft a RB given our situation, but if it happened, I would be excited.
What do you think? And what outside the box picks do you like that most don’t see coming?
