Curious about the theater scene

To the end of meeting people with shared interests, any ideas of where to start trying to get involved the with theater scene? I'm a documentary filmmaker, and I've had the idea for a while that it would be cool to link up with people who might want to collaborate on fiction projects, but lowkey I'm just generally trying to make some new friends.
