Curious about school districts. How worried should I be about HISD?

Hi all – Looking at places in Houston after being gone 8 years. Will be returning with my 3.5 year old and a newborn and am trying to think through different areas.

We've found a few places near friends and family, but most are zoned to HISD. I've obviously read a bit about what's going on but it's hard to get the full scoop without being there on the ground.

The schools we're looking into are A-rated (Red Elementary for example) but are still part of HISD…

Soooo let me know your thoughts and opinions, would love to hear 'em. Also considering Katy ISD since that's supposed to be better, but that'll put us a little farther out than we'd like.
