Culley’s competition strategy

At this point we need realize that 37 players are going to be cut before we finalize our roster. Since we lost all 3 of our stars we are playing with a bunch of people that were great but either got hurt or were poorly utilized with their previous teams (obviously talking about all the free agent acquisitions).

Given our current situation with the lack of draft picks and losing our star players this isn’t a bad short term strategy. I think it’s clear Culley & Caserio want to utilize the run game much more than we have last year. Our lack of a run game is what really hurt us last season (among other things).

I really can’t predict what our performance will be yet, but I do think this is the best strategy. If we win 5 games, I’ll consider this season a win. Hopefully Ty can mentor Mills and we’ll see him out for a few plays here and there and determine if he can carry the helm long term.

I’m liking Nico more and more as I see more film. I saw our stats at the red zone last year and they were pathetic. Now I completely understand why we picked him up. He’s a great red zone WR. With the RB committee that we have I don’t see 5 wins out of the realm of possibility.

Maybe I’m being too optimistic.
