Could ‘The Last of Us’ Happen? Houston Mycology & Infectious Diseases Director to Speak at Astral Brewing Tuesday Evening

Dr. Luis Ostrosky, Director of the Laboratory of Mycology Research and Division Director of Infectious Diseases McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, will give a FREE public talk at Astral Brewing on Tuesday, October 3rd at 6:30pm.

"Fungus Among Us: Can 'The Last of Us' Happen?"

'The Last of Us' (video game and now HBO series) imagines a world in which a viral fungal infection, which takes over people's bodies, turns the world into a zombie apocalypse. This talk will describe the realities and fictions of such a scenario, by diving into the science of fungi (mycology) and infectious diseases.

Q & A will follow, as will Astral's Tuesday evening beer specials ($5 per beer).

Even though this is at a brewery, all ages are welcome.

No, I do not work for or own Astral Brewing. No, I do not get anything for hosting these events, except getting to meet cool folks. The goal is to present broad areas of science to the public in a fun and accessible way. I'm trying to meet people and build a community interested in science here in Houston.
