Correct main valve to house?

Correct main valve to house?

So, let's get ahead. My water line HASN'T broken. (It did break back in 2021, city side fortunately. It is crazy common in my neighborhood.). I want to keep it that way. We are trying to get a water softener installed. When our plumbers came out and went to turn off the water to the house, he took a look at this valve and basically said "Wrong valve" (commercial vs residential?) Is he correct? A quick online search did show more typical ball valves there. Would taking an impact wrench to this to loosen it be phenomenally stupid?
