Completing Houston highway expansion project to take nearly a year longer than expected

HOUSTON — Highway 290 used to be Houston’s poster child for perpetual road construction.

It may now be 288.

“They said it was going to be done by this year, but it’s not done by this year at all,” said driver Nicole Stranchan.

288 is undergoing a major expansion from Brazoria County all the way past the Texas Medical Center to the US 59 interchange.
