Commute Opinions: Medical Center to Johnson Space Center

Weigh in on my commute! My fiancé and I are relocating from DC, so we know traffic.

He’ll be working at Medical Center in the ED (so we’d like him to be close) and I’ll be at JSC. While we’re looking in Clear Lake, League City, Friendswood, Pearland we like the housing rental options near Medical Center a lot better (we’re going to rent for a year to get the lay of the land and then buy). They’re more our style and we don’t need a sprawling 5 bedroom home when it’s just the two of us. We are past the age when we’re out at the bars every night, but like being in a more urban setting where we can get to good restaurants , museums and the like when we aren’t working.

For the properties we’ve selected every search I’ve used (Google Maps, Waze, etc.) show about 30-35 minutes for my commute mostly via the Sam Houston Tollway and then picking up 45. I’m comfortable with a 30-40 minute commute door to door. Am I missing something?

Anyone who does this commute, will you let me know what it’s like? Coming from DC, I know there will be those brutal days when it rains or there is an accident, but trying to get a sense in general of what to expect and I don’t want it to be an hour each way everyday each way. We’ll be in town next week touring rentals and will do some test drives then too.
