Commercial Plane Being Escorted?

I live up near Lake Conroe and have seen the planes coming in and out of IAH my whole life. They follow certain “roads” in the sky and are always easily recognizable.

I was just out walking my dogs and looked up to gaze at the stars and planes as I always do. I saw a commercial plane doing its usual thing but noticed something else interesting. There was a smaller plane trailing it and another making wide circles in front sort of leading the way. Was this plane being escorted? I am NOT saying these were UFOs, they had blinking lights and were clearly planes, just smaller ones.

I thought at first that I was seeing lower altitude private craft flying into Conroe airport as is also common. But I watched for about 2 mins as it crossed overhead and the two smaller planes kept perfect distance and pace with the larger plane.

I’m a plane nerd so this kinda geeked me out but just wondering if there was someone “famous” in town or maybe passing through? I hope it wasn’t due to any issues with the plane.
