Coming for conference

Hey all! So sorry to ask this, I’m used to r/chicago FAQs. I’m coming to Houston in July for a convention and am unsure of where to stay. My boyfriend (who won’t be attending the event) and I are coming for several days before the convention and want to experience Houston. Is there an area that you’d recommend to get an Airbnb in? We want to be able to walk to bars and good restaurants. TIA.
