Climate of Houston

I will be attending the University of Houston for my master's. I would like to know what the climate of Houston is like, especially during winters, and how low the temperature goes. Do I need to bring any winter or rain jackets with me? I'm used to pretty hot conditions; where I come from, the summers get as high as 117°F.
