Choice between Houston and San Antonio for work

Hello!

I recently received a job offer, and I have the choice of living in either Houston or San Antonio. I've done some searching on this sub, but I don't know the neighborhoods to know what to search for as far as where my work location will be, and some other questions.

Work location is around Aldine Bender & JFK Blvd. I'm a single 39/m – no kids. Would like to be able to see live original music nearish where I live (especially jazz/funk). Also, chill night life/bars nearby would be great (more dive than club).

1. What's the area like near my work location? There don't seem to be many apartment options in the area. Would this area be good to live in, or would it be better to get a car and commute?
2. How easy is it to make friends/dating? I had an easy time while in New Orleans, but my time in Minneapolis has been abysmal.
3. What areas would you recommend for my age group/lifestyle that are within approximately a 15min car commute to my workplace?
