Checking for roaches in potential apartments?

I’m starting to search for a new apartment when the current lease ends

I know obviously as I tour units they will have been recently cleaned so there won’t be actual roaches running wild but I’m worried about signing a lease on a seemingly clean unit and then after a week or so they start crawling out the cracks or come over from neighbors.

What’s the best things to look for to suggest if a complex has roaches? I know usually if a neighbor gets them everyone does so just trying to plan
