Charter or Public?

My daughter is entering kindergarten this year and we were originally going to be going to CCISD’s STEM school like she did for pre-k. We loved her school last year!

Plans changed when we were approved for a larger house closer to family but now she’s zoned for Mitchell Elementary out of HISD. After looking at reviews and the stories I’ve heard from HISD, I’m a bit nervous about the transition.

Is HISD really as bad as they say? Should we be looking at charters? If so, which charters are good for a young girl? I don’t want her stuck in a uniform if I can avoid it. If we have to do a uniform I at least want her to be able to wear pants or shorts if she desires especially in the winter. She’s also 1/2 black so I want to ensure she won’t be dealing with racism from other students, which is what I’ve heard comes out of the charters.

I’m conflicted. What would you do? 🫠
