Castro v. Maldy

Castros hitting numbers .258/.395./.548. His OBP and SLG number are best on the team. OBP first alone, SLG tied first with Alvarez. How good can Maldonado be on defense to justify the playing time he gets with his .091/.167/.136 numbers? Is it only because they just paid him 5 mill? He’s on record saying he “can sleep better now” after he got his extension, but his numbers have only dropped.

Idk if Castro can keep up with those numbers, but it’s more likely than Maldy having any significant improvement (where he’s at least hitting .220/.300/.330. IMO Castro had earned the right to get more PT. Specially with Maldy batting that bad. Maybe even look for a trade. What am I missing?
