Caserio was always the plan

Feel like I need to remind ppl that it was always the plan to get Caserio as our GM. Easterby fucked it up last attempt, the Pats were able to level tampering charges and we had to back off but idk why anyone thought that meant we were done trying. You don't think BoB wore the GM hat because anyone thought he was actually the best available option do you? No, it's because we needed a stopgap to keep Caserio's seat warm. Couldn't hire a real GM because then you lose the opening to get Nick.

Now I'm not trying to defend Cal, or Easterby, or even BoB. I just think some of the doom and gloom rn that is based on some seemingly WTF decisions that actually make perfect sense. Why make BoB the GM? Stopgap for Caserio. Why didn't Cal go with someone on the search firms list? Because Caserio was already #1 on the list going in. Why did Cal seemingly snub Deshaun on the GM hire? Because the plan never was anything other than Caserio and I feel like Cal honestly thought Deshaun understood that (communication issue for sure imo).

Bottom line I don't think Easterby pulled a wormtongue to get Caserio in over anyone else. Clearly the guy has too much influence, and is 100% negatively impacting the culture and player relations, and honestly needs to go. And I think he will be gone, at least in terms of having any official capacity for the team. We're still in the predictable kneejerk response phase where rich sheltered white guy doesn't think anyone can tell him what to do with his team, but when this doesn't blow over he's going to have to cave. This may not take the form of Easterby actually getting fired, to save face. But he'll be reduced to some kind of nebulous advisor role and kept the f**k away from the players.

Also last thing, Watson is a grown ass man, and a professional. There's a lot of off-season. He'll eventually come to terms with/make peace with staying here as long as reasonable concessions are made. I think he understands that he shouldn't be able to dictate who is the GM, HC, etc. This whole thing is about feeling unheard and disrespected, which is VERY FAIR and I don't judge him at all for it; but this does not have to be a total bridge burning party. Caserio and Watson can smooth this out, I know they can. And Watson will ball out for whatever team he is playing for, even if it's still with us.

Anyway, just a few cents for anyone that wants to feel a little hopeful.
