Car rental in Houston?

Hello! My family and I would be visiting Houston and other parts of Texas for the first time and we were trying to plan the details of our trip. I just recently got my drivers license (not a citizen of the USA) and the topic of renting a car came up! We should be in a hotel in the heart of the city and not sure how good the public transportation would be for the internal travel in the city vs Uber vs renting a car. Hoping to get some advice on this as how driving might be. For reference I do live in the heart of Seattle and fairly comfortable with city driving.
