Car dealerships prices in Houston

Just a FYI after buying my kid a car recently. Car dealerships are running a dual price scheme. Apparently they are selling a lot of cars online and to out of state buyers. They have a posted price on the car in the lot and a different price online. This allows them to sell the car higher if you don't look them up online. Literally was told there is a lot price and a online price. Was told by my car salesman that this is how it works.
