Can’t sell Houston house fast enough – what are my options?
So I got offered my dream job in Austin (finally!) but there's a catch – they want me to start in 5 weeks. I own a house in Houston that I need to sell and I'm lowkey panicking about the timeline here.
My realtor is being realistic with me saying "the Houston market is slower right now, expect 60-90 days minimum" which is way longer than I have. I can't afford to carry a mortgage here while paying rent in Austin, and my new salary is good but not "double housing payments" good lol.
The house is older and needs some TLC – nothing structural but definitely cosmetic stuff. Under normal circumstances I'd fix it up before selling but I literally don't have the funds for that right now. Every dollar is going toward keeping collectors off my back.
I've been researching options and companies that buy houses as is keep popping up. They supposedly buy houses quickly without needing repairs done first. I'm skeptical it's a good deal but I also don't have 6 months to go the traditional route with staging and showings and all that. How fast can I realistically sell a house in Houston if I need to move quickly? And has anyone worked with these cash buyer companies – are they legit or just taking advantage of desperate people? I hate feeling backed into a corner like this.
Any Houston folks been in a similar bind? What'd you end up doing? I'm trying to make smart decisions but it's hard to think clearly when you're this stressed about money.
