Canadian looking for advice on places to live Houston dt

Hi! My husband and I are moving to Houston in the summer:) I'll be working remotely and he'll be in the medical district. We've never lived in Houston, but based on the memes about traffic we're thinking being close to work is a good idea. I'm looking at the Museum District/Montrose/Midtown corridor (mostly in a small area from Elgin/Westheimer down between Yoakum and Main, basically?). Are there any buildings/specific areas that would be smart to avoid or buildings folks would recommend? Coming from a small Canadian city we're not used to much crime and are usually keen to walk around where we live. We're also hoping to have a pool and fitness centre where we are as we imagine the heat will make things tough for us going out for exercise for a few months….
