Can someone tell me what Jesus has to do with football?

Serious question. I went to catholic school in Houston (Strake Jesuit). What does God have to do with football? I thought Jesus was concerning himself with the sick and the poor. Where does football fall into this? Why would Jesus concern himself with such matters? Why should Jack Easterby have sway in such things? This feels insulting to Christianity.
