Can someone please ELI5 why Astros games can’t be watched when I’m not home and what is a blackout market.

I don’t understand why I can’t watch the Astros play even though it is a nationally televised game on TBS while I’m in Midland Texas? And why can’t it be seen for the MLB app? Isn’t that whole reason for purchasing the subscription?
