Can I legally “trap” a neighbors cat with the intent to release it to either my neighbor or an animal shelter?

I’ve lived in the energy corridor for about 4 years and my house gets feline visitors every night around 3am. I’ve seen the same cats around the neighborhood but don’t know who owns them (assuming they’re pets). These assholes roam in my backyard and make all sorts of noise that cause my lab to bark, which in turn wakes my child.

I’m sick of the bullshit and want to get a drop trap (or critter trap) to restrain them until I wake up in the morning, then I’d either find the asshole neighbor or drop the cats off at an animal shelter.

Does anyone know if I can legally do this? I read a news article that said it was legal in Fort Bend county but that obviously doesn’t apply since I live in Harris County.
