Campaign Signs and Ads

I have noticed something this election that I have not noticed previously. That is the colors of the campaign signs and ads. Traditionally democrats have been predominantly blue and Republicans have been predominantly red. This year, however, Not only do both sides seem to be mixing colors, but the majority of TV ads and local signs I have seen do not even have the candidates political party listed. Has anyone else noticed this? Why is this?
