Building the franchise
Exec/Coaching:
GM: Scott Fitterer, MIKE BORGONZI, Scott Pioli, ?Nick Caserio?, LOUIS RIDDICK
HC: Preferably an offensive minded one
1 Eric Bieniemy- Probably best on the market and could be top 20 HC in league in his first season. With drafting rule for a minority coach, he will get that little bit extra to get him, but even without that would be perfect, especially for the city of Houston to see.
2: Greg Roman- Has done some great things with Ravens, and building around Lamar and not through him. Could he lead the whole team though? certainly best Caucasian coach option. 2020 season will see if he can actually make the performance with the team, passing being anywhere below 15th in the league means he CANNOT be the HC.
- Brain Daboll- Brings a totally different daily attitude, which seems much needed after BOB era. Since BOB was a hot head and would get rid of players he had disagreements with, which almost everyone seemed to have them with him, Daboll would bring a culture change. With the work that he did with Josh Allen, the offense would be designed for Watson to have ways to scramble, the question with Daboll is can he set up the run game.
DC?? Romeo Could be calling defensive, but him as assistant head coach could be very strong. Weaver does not seem to be able to be a defensive coordinator, or he may need more hand-holding from Romeo during the process. Texans have the players to be a much better defense, but the system in place seems to not work. New HC might, paired with Romeo, this could be a strong and smart defense mean Romeo could stay as DC or Assistant HC, if Romeo is a HC, then WADE PHILLIPS would be a great DC, paired with Romeo, this could be a strong and smart defense.
WR Coach: Pay Andre Johnson actually. He loves the org and the fans love him, so this would be a good PR move. He also probably could do better than the current one. Hell, TJ Yates assists QBs, get Johnson back in as one with pay.
LB Coach: Brian Cushing should be a LB assistant coach, but he should focus on Mercilus, Cunningham, and McKinney. The backbone of the tacking along with Reid, these three need to be in a better position to stop runs than they have been this season.
Rest of Coaches: Turn over will happen with new GM and new HC.
Draft:
1: RG/LG/C- These are the weakest links on the whole team. These are why we have no run game and why Watson is under pressure after 1 second almost every play. Given that RT is in sophomore year currently, I am giving him a pass. Tunsil can definitely improve, but he is the backbone right now and should be able to rely on the other guys there. Move Heck to LG, if we are counting on him to be a future for this team, show him we believe in him or at least give him the reps to learn and grow, then Watson can account for that weak leak as THE consistent point of attack for blitz or D-line. Another move would be to move Fulton to center and Heck to RG.
2: WR: We just need to revamp this over the next few seasons, maybe go into the undrafted receivers for this, but the future of Texans receivers looks like they will be retired within 5-6 seasons, and no one even has a contract to last until then anyways.
3: Edge: This might be better at number two in draft needs, but while the Texans still have Watt, This would be a great addition. Having Watt as a mentoring role for the rookie could also be a great way to see if he would be a good addition as a coach later on. Watt is getting up there in age and has had too many injuries to expect him to play for much longer. Setting up a new edge now might help out.
4: RB: Just need to have some youth on the team to grow into being a Texan. Duke and David Johnson would be pretty good mentors for a rookie, and having two dual-threat RBs might work, but adding a rookie here for cheaper might help trade one of the others for a 3rd round or lager pick.
5: CB/S: The defense has shown to be pretty good as a passing defense, but not a running defense. So this isn’t necessary but it would be a good move to build depth.
6: LB/TE: This is the second to last need, but within the next 5 years the Texans will end up with a while here so looking at Freshmen in the 2021 season and tracking their careers might prove advantageous for a system TE/ LB. Caleb Johnson would be a good LB to draft in 2020.
7: QB: This will not be needed for at least 6 years, I think Watson will stay in Houston until retirement. We could draft one in 6 years and have Watson mentor him as a dual-threat and when Watson retires, have him be the QB assistant coach and eventually QB Coach.
