Brice Matthews 40-man Chances for 2025

Our #1 prospect has logged 42 games at 2B this season with 1 error. His current slash line sits at .274/.396/.879 with his BB/K rate at a very respectable 0.57. His wOBA is .394 and wRC is at 133.

He looks to be our future 2B, so the question for the group is, what are the chances he gets on the 40 man and gets significant playing time? You can’t platoon him, or his development begins to waiver. He would be your everyday 2B which pushes Altuve into LF/DH role more, but then you have to do something with Altuve when Yordan returns.

I definitely think the Astros need a LH OF bat upgrade (sorry guys but Melton is injured way too often to be that guy), so does that make Matthews a potential trade piece? Probably not.

Also, is Rogers the guy to be DFA’d to make room for Brice?
