Breakfast Taco Places in Houston with “San Antonio Style” Flour Tortillas?
I grew up in San Antonio, and I really miss the thicker, softer style of flour tortilla that’s typical there. In general, I think Houston’s tortillas are typically thinner and a little chewier. I’m not neessarily saying one is better than the other, but I love breakfast tacos on those thicker tortillas.
I actually made a post in r/Texas a while back in which I broke down what I saw as the various regional flour tortillas in Texas (as you can tell, I’m very serious about my tortillas haha).
Have any other transplanted San Antonians, or really anyone else in the know, found any Houston spots with tortillas like that?
Also, to avoid confusion, and to be clear — I am talking about soft flour tortillas, not puffy tacos. I realized, after trying to Google this, that “San Antonio style tortillas” is sometimes used to describe puffy tacos — which I absolutely love, but are not what I’m after here.
EDIT: actually, a half decent example are the fresh flour tortillas you can buy in the HEB bakery section. Being an SA based company, it seems like they opt to make SA style tortillas. Of course, I can and have use those to make my own*, but sometimes it’s nice to just order the food you want.
*San Manuel Chorizo is the best, IMO, for homemade chorizo and egg tortillas
