Brandin Cooks…

Amari Rodgers, Chris Moore and Philip Dorsett. Those are literally the only WR’s we have on this roster not including John Metchie who is still getting healthy.

Edit:forgot Nico Collins up there. I like Nico but not excited about him foreseeably being our first or even second best WR.

Seems we’re all ready to see Brandin Cooks be a trade piece in the draft but I’m probably in the minority that would support Caserio if he made the decision to not trade Cooks if he can’t get the deal he wants. Why should we be so quick to cave to his demands for a trade right after he signed a contract extension? We can’t force him to play but we can force him to honor the contract he signed by not trading him.

Truth is what’s best for both sides is Brandin recommitting to the team. We only have 3 other WR’s who are all replacement level/WR4/5 types. This isn’t a good year to look to free agency for a difference maker at WR. We can draft a WR high in the upcoming draft and we need to regardless but said WR will be a rookie and would benefit from playing with a guy like Cooks. It would be borderline criminal to draft Bryce Young or CJ Stroud and expect them to have a prolific rookie season with the group of guys we have at WR right now minus Cooks even if we make some promising additions in the draft and free agency.

I say we keep Cooks if we can’t get the deal we want and if he doesn’t like it let him pout. If he wants to sit out then let him. If wants to recommit to the team and honor his contract then we should welcome that. But what we shouldn’t do is cave and take a deal that doesn’t make the team better just because he suddenly decides he doesn’t want to play for a rebuilding team right after he signed a contract with a team in the middle of when they’re rebuilding.
