Bolivar Peninsula – What the heck? Is EVERYTHING for sale?

Visiting family and made a day trip to Galveston and took the ferry to the Peninsula. "For Sale" signs EVERYWHERE – musta been hundreds of them! Just curious – never seen so-o-o much property for sale in one place before! What the heck is happening there?
