Bobby Slowik isn’t dumb

So I am the first person to say he should not be back next year and is a large part of why have been so bad on offense, BUT it is not because he is stupid or dumb or lacks football knowledge. Let me preface this to say that there are different types of football knowledge. Some people are really good on the “strategy” side, so play design, game planning, and concepts but at the same time be terrible in the moment (so they are knowledgeable and can talk about the subject with confidence but are not able to practically apply that knowledge in the moment). Listening to some of his press conferences he understands football and it shows how intelligent he is when it comes to football, but man does he miss the mark on game day. I believe he will be a good to great OC one day in the future (maybe 3-5 years from now) but we can’t have a 2nd year OC learning on the job while developing out 2nd year franchise QB with the deficiencies we have now. As a matter of fact I see his failure this year as much an organizational failure than anything because I feel like they didn’t bring in the help he needed in the form of experienced OCs outside of the building who can bring him some fresh perspective (not sure if this is because they assumed he would be gone the next year and didn’t want to invest in developing him for another team). The fact that after 8 weeks they couldn’t figure out pass protection or how to make the offense look decent (or functional in the 2nd half) showed that what they were doing wasn’t working and something had to change.

TLDR: Bobby’s not a bad dude, he really does know football (theory), and didn’t have the right support around him but should still be gone next year.
