Bill Gates Shares Summer Recommendations From Houston Barbecue Joint

Summer reading and ribs make quite the pairing
Microsoft co-founder and software virtuoso Bill Gates announced his annual summer reading and watch list from beloved Houston barbecue joint, Pinkerton’s Barbecue.
Over glasses of whiskey, sides of potato salad, and plenty of Central Texas-style barbecue, Gates outlines his recommendations for summertime television and leisurely reading. He filmed the video during an April 2024 visit to Texas, which included stops at clean energy companies, and erudite discussions about good literature. In conversation with fellow barbecue enthusiasts, Gates shared his recommendations, which include:
- The Women by Kristin Hannah
- Infectious Generosity: The Ultimate Idea Worth Spreading by Chris Anderson
- Slow Horses available on Apple TV+
- Brave New Words by Sal Khan
- How to Know a Person by David Brooks
The full video highlighting his visit is available online, and Gates’ summer recommendation list can be found on his blog.
