Bike commuting in Medical Center/ Living near Medical Center

Hi everyone I work in the medical center and I want to move into apts near the area. Any advice on what to know? Im a woman in my twenties and just want to know what its like and if you feel safe enough. I was also thinking Id want to bike to work but Im somewhat worried about the roads not being safe but I still want to take it into consideration as I see many pros from biking to work. Any info helps, thanks!
