Being considered for a job in Houston. Cost of living???

I am being considered for a position in the Houston area, I am not from the US and have never lived there. I am struggling with what a decent salary would be to live in the city. I have looked at prices of rentals and they are a good bit lower than where I am not considering the exchange rate.

So I am wondering what people would consider a yearly salary that would be comfortable? I do not live an extravagant life currently but am quite comfortable. For comparison what salary would you think would have someone living paycheck to paycheck?
