Before the cheating scandal, what will AJ Hinch bring to the Tigers?

Tigers fan here, and I am hearing some rumors about Hinch being the #1 guy for our managerial opening. I don't know much about him but I do know about his cheating scandal due to the countless, and countless pages of him being involved in the scandal.

Before the scandal, what was Hinch like? Was he a guy that helped develop prospects? Was he a guy that helped elevate the game with his baseball knowledge? Was it just Lunhow giving him the right guys?

With his cheating history, would it give our players + FA's a different view of him and potentially not play for him?
