Average house rental utility costs around Southwest Inner Loop
How much money should my family and I typically expect to spare for utility costs when renting a house in the southwest inner loop not including base rent?
My family and I want to rent a home, but we have no prior experience with renting a house. We are a family of 4, but have only ever lived in apartments. We pay about 1,900$ a month, and this rent is paid entirely by only 1 house hold members income. The rest of the family members don’t really contribute to much of anything besides food, and other small necessities as needed.
We all sat down and agreed that we can comfortably help the family member solely responsible for the rent with up to 800$ a month. However, we are having this issue where my family is explaining to me that realistically speaking, we cannot afford a house for rent since we are going to be paying an extra 1,000$ on utilities besides the base rent provided by the agent. They are basing these numbers off of a close friend who lives close to the Bayland Park area with a family total of 6.
Is this accurate for where you live? What are normal numbers to see based on moderate to severe usage?
