Why I Don’t Hate Will Levis https://houstonnewmedia.org/why-i-dont-hate-will-levis/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=why-i-dont-hate-will-levis Wed, 19 Apr 2023 23:37:45 +0000 http://houstonnewmedia.org/?guid=4317d2910cdfbbc2a0ac84716de4bc20 Let me start by saying, Young is my favorite qb in this draft by a country mile. It really sucks that we're going to miss out on him imo. However, Levis might not be a bad choice at QB especially if we go Defense at 2 and trade up from the 12th pic...

The Case Against Trading Up https://houstonnewmedia.org/the-case-against-trading-up/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-case-against-trading-up Tue, 10 Jan 2023 16:49:10 +0000 http://houstonnewmedia.org/?guid=f8e52e2e4f427817c8b67191903cbf04

Over the past few months, I've been an avid Bryce Young supporter. I love the guy. Outside of size concerns, he's got all the intangibles and just seems like such a class act that it's hard not to want him on our team. Especially since as the last franchise QB was a piece of s**t. However, selling the farm to move up and get him would put us back further than anything else.

For starters, Casserio has a known bias against smaller quarterbacks. That, coupled with the fact that he knows well that this may be his last chance to draft for us, tells me that no one is not going to be worth us trading up for at one. Each pick needs to be methodical, especially in the first and second round.

That presents two options. The simplest option is that no one trades up for the Bears pick. They seem to want a large haul for the pick, but I don't see how that's feasible. The Bears realistically can't afford to trade down to 4 or lower without risking potentially missing out on Carter and Anderson. The Colts seem to be the most likely option, but what do the Bears do if the Colts take Young, we take Carter, and the Cards take Anderson? Now they're holding on to additional picks but at the expense of losing the 2 premier defensive players in the draft. The only feasible option to me, would be the Raiders trading Adams to move up, but why would the Raiders do that when they could likely get a better return for Adams elsewhere and take either a veteran QB in Free Agency or a flyer late? If the Bears aren't willing to budge on their demands, they'll likely take either Carter or Anderson begrudgingly. If that's the case, we get Young at 2 and don't have to give up anything.

Option 2 is the Bears do facilitate a trade with a team for the number 1 pick. Bryce Young goes off the board. If this is the case, I think you have to go BPA. I would personally select Will Anderson here. My logic being Christian Harris was performing well as last season progressed and would likely be able to help Anderson transition easily from college to the NFL. Plus Anderson strikes me as more versatile than Carter. I would then take a flyer in the mid-rounds with someone like Max Duggan or Hendon Hooker. I don't think Richardson or Levis are worth taking at 12, and I can easily see neither of them being there at 33.

What I would do is sign a QB in the off-season and wait. If you go out and get Garropolo, Carr, Geno, Brissett, etc. and wait, then whether we get Young or Stroud at 2 or Hooker or Duggan in the mid-rounds, we would likely still see a noteworthy improvement at QB. No rush in getting a rookie to start Week One. Give them a few weeks to feel things out. Then, during the draft, I would call the Bears' bluff. Let them know if they trade down that they're going to pay for it by missing out on game-changing players.

I truthfully think that things will be fine. This off-season is going to be imperative for how this franchise builds its identity moving forward. Nick is looking for a long-term coach and a draft class that can work in tandem with last year's rookies to pioneer a new direction for this team moving forward. These next few months will be very telling for this team, and I'm interested to see what we look like in a few months.

Does Anyone Else Feel a Little Bad for JJ Watt? https://houstonnewmedia.org/does-anyone-else-feel-a-little-bad-for-jj-watt/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=does-anyone-else-feel-a-little-bad-for-jj-watt Mon, 26 Dec 2022 04:59:27 +0000 http://houstonnewmedia.org/?guid=884d8b2849b6f5b8d61330b5907190f5

His reasoning for leaving the Texans was that he didn't want to be in a rebuild (which is fair), but the Cards are currently one of the worst teams in the league with no clear direction moving forward. He's giving it his all despite the situation he's placed in. I understand that hindsight is 20/20, but he left a bad situation here for a situation in AZ that is arguably worse. He clearly cared about the team and the Houston community, and I wonder if he considers coming back to Houston when his contract expires with AZ.

I don’t want to hear it anymore. Draft Bryce Young https://houstonnewmedia.org/i-dont-want-to-hear-it-anymore-draft-bryce-young/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=i-dont-want-to-hear-it-anymore-draft-bryce-young Sun, 18 Dec 2022 21:18:29 +0000 http://houstonnewmedia.org/?guid=1168156274170dc5740c154fe2884af5

Even at his absolute best, Mills can't do anything. I know the coaching staff sucks, but c'mon. A competent QB would've won that game for us, or at the very least wouldn't have literally fumbled the game away. Draft Bryce Young, and get a new coaching staff. Tired of this s**t.

Sign Baker for cheap and draft Bryce Young (Just my Opinion) https://houstonnewmedia.org/sign-baker-for-cheap-and-draft-bryce-young-just-my-opinion/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=sign-baker-for-cheap-and-draft-bryce-young-just-my-opinion Mon, 05 Dec 2022 21:04:30 +0000 http://houstonnewmedia.org/?guid=2a041cb072eb563902659971fcf975de

I'm not saying Baker is good. This year has proven that injury set him back a long way. But when I think of what is going to be best for this franchise, this move makes sense. We could likely get him for cheap with the expectation that he starts the first 4 or so games of the next season while we develop Bryce Young and get him pro-ready (which likely wouldn't take very long imo). Baker works well in run-first offenses, so we can have him game manage and run the DP-Eno Benjamin tandem. I think Baker could in all honesty be a good veteran presence for a young QB seeing as to how he's been humbled throughout the past 2 seasons. Not to mention he took a team to the playoffs and got a win not long ago. Just my opinion though. I just think it makes sense to get a veteran presence at QB if we're going to draft one at #1 overall.
