Energy traders, should I be timing the residential market?

This is for a house in Houston. No matter who I go with, I’m looking at a minimum 50% increase in the electric bill, all else being equal. A few tenths of cents per kWh either way won’t matter a whole lot, but under the circumstances, I’m hoping to shave off more.

I can change energy providers in the 14-day window, or I can renew with my usual within a bigger window, so I have some time flexibility. Only interested in fixed-rate plans.

*Are the PowerToChoose prices volatile enough to be swayed by the current weather, or fairly stable? *Why are there so many cheap 3-month plans? Are they expecting higher rates in the spring? *Other considerations aside, is a 3-year plan a good choice in your opinion, or too long to be locked in?

Would love to hear from anyone with insights into the bigger picture.
