Planning on visiting Galveston Island for the first time but all I have heard about the beaches is that they're dirty. I don't care too much about swimming but would want a nice place to sit and relax. Which part of Galveston would you suggest I look at?

Any suggestions for fun things to do with family would be appreciated too! Currently have moody islands on my list.
