Read MoreWhile lots has been said about wind turbines in TX, much less has been mentioned about the massive amount of solar buildout in the last 3-5 years. Before that, the grid had about 3GW of solar that would be seen during an average summer day (reference: …
Read MoreHi all:
I have some guests in town who have been here numerous times before, usually in the spring or fall. With the current cold weather through the weekend, I was looking for some ideas of things to do during the day that might be interesting. We’ve done a lot of things like the Texas Flight Museum and NASA, I think we did the off-shore drilling museum once (lol), so it doesn’t have to be super-unique even to Houston, just something to get out of the house. We’ve done the natural history museum, the butterfly garden, etc, we did Moody Gardens twice. They aren’t into modern art or really any art, so MFAH / Menil / Rothko don’t work.
So far I’ve come up:
Van Goh Experience. I went and thought it was pretty cool so that could work.
a movie.
Dave & Busters or similar
thought about the BBQ cookoff but I think it’s pretty cold
rodeo parade, same weather concerns
kemah, still pretty cold
Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Every morning when I watch the news, someone was shot the previous night in a road rage incident. Often they have no leads or a vague lead on a vehicle.
When I first moved to Houston in 2007, I got in an incident with a white Subaru who proceeded to follow me off the highway. I tried to get away from him but he caught up to me at a stoplight. He got out of his car with a tire iron and wanted me to get out and fight him. I wouldn’t, so he struck the top of my car several times with the tire iron, leaving big dents. I drove off as soon as the traffic cleared and got away. That was my ‘Welcome To Houston’ moment.
But now after pandemic and with the fact that anyone can carry a gun, it seems like these incidents of people shooting at each other on the road are getting much more common.
My partner was in an incident yesterday. She was waiting behind a Monte Carlo waiting to turn. The MC wasn’t turning and there was no traffic, so after a few minutes my partner beeped the horn. Beeped, not slammed. The MC turned and my partner then turned. The MC stopped and tried to get alongside her. They rolled down their pax window and started shouting things. They wouldn’t drive forward and kept trying to get alongside my partner. My partner was terrified.
I don’t know what to do about this. I’ve considered carrying myself. I’ve never previously felt the need to carry a pistol however I am highly proficient from participating in competitions. And while that might help me, it doesn’t help my partner who has no such proficiency nor the proclivity to draw on someone.
I am genuinely scared one of us is going to get shot for no reason. I know they say not to respond to aggression and that’s typically something we do, we try to get out of the situation. They say call 911 but I don’t see how that would possibly help.

Hi. Celebrating my 14th wedding anniversary. My partner’s ring needs repair and a resize. Anyone do good work that come recommended? Would prefer not to go to a mall jeweler if you get my drift.

Read MoreOk so I know why, the law says the county didn’t meet the timelines. However the law also says nothing about what happens if the deadlines are not met, so it would seem the legal remedy of invalidating the entire appointment would be excessive, at least in most peoples’ minds I would think. Can someone please explain this one to me? Is there anything preventing Harris Co from just redoing their actions correctly according to TX law and still appoint the same person? I don’t really see what the point of this is.
