Hey y’all. I’m new to Houston and hoping for some advice.
I joined a local crossfit gym where I was living before and went for a few months up until I moved and I really liked it. The people were friendly and it got me off my ass and exercising which is frankly a miracle for me.
Since moving here I tried one local crossfit gym so far but it wasn’t for me. I tried to engage a few other people in small talk after the workout ended and the responses ranged from total disinterest to downright unfriendly.
It doesn’t have to be crossfit but I’m really just looking for some kind of group or guided fitness. I don’t know how to work out properly, my form still needs a fair bit of correcting, and I know that despite having a nice gym in my apartment I won’t ever walk over to it and use it on my own. The thing I found helpful with crossfit in the last place I lived was I just knew that M-F I would show up at noon and exercise with a bunch of friendly moms and other people around my own age range. Everyone was really encouraging, people were always telling one another “great job” or “you got this”. It reminded me a lot of The British Baking Show with its positivity.
I’m living over by the energy corridor, I think that’s what the area is called. My complex is over by Briar Forest and rt 6, right by the George Bush Park.
Ideally I’d like to cap costs around $150/mo, like to exercise in the middle of the day when there is no rush hour, and really just want some kind of guided experience where someone can tell me if I’m about to give myself a hernia or not.
Really have been loving Houston so far, even with all the crazy drivers. It is SO nice to be a stone’s throw from dozens of different restaurants and have an actual downtown. Everything feels so vibrant.
Thank y’all in advance.
