Houston Shoulder Surgeon Selection
I tore my shoulder labrum on impact after a rock climbing fall last September and I have met with three shoulder-specialist orthopedic surgeons over the past 4 months (one in Denver while traveling and two in Houston).
They all said the same thing – If I want to climb at a high level again, I’ll need surgery. Since surgery is always a last resort for me, I did try PT for 6 weeks two separate times. Each time I felt better but then after climbing a couple of sessions I’d be right back where I started. Thus, I think they’re right.
I’ll be in Houston until the summer so that’s where I’d like to do the surgery.
Houston Doctors:
- Mufaddal Gombera, MD (Fondren Orthopedic Group)
- Robert K. Fullick, MD (UT Physicians Orthopedics / Memorial Hermann)
Both Doctors were really knowledgeable and very personable. Honestly, I liked them both and can’t decide. D: Does anyone have any experience with either of these surgeons and/or their offices?
Additionally, does anyone have recommendations for good Physical Therapists that treat a lot of post-surgery shoulders? Ideally, someone who works with climbers or other dynamic sports athletes.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. 🙂
