Petland Webster

My wife really wants a dachshund puppy, so last weekend we found ourselves at Petland Webster after a google search. The place seemed nice enough but once the sales pitches started my bullshit radar was going off the charts. Then they hit us with the price, $7500. Now I would pay any amount of money to make my wife happy, but luckily she has way more sense than for us to spend that much money on a dog. Unfortunately, after doing some research online about Petland it seems my radar was correct. Petland stores are known to sell from puppy mills even though their sales pitch says otherwise. We asked for a certain dachshund we saw on their website and my wife mentioned that the employee told her “she would have to get him from the back”. I’ve read online that they keep the more sickly dogs in the back to isolate them from the healthier dogs. We noticed that when she put the dog down it had a little limp and we asked her about it which she immediately dismissed. They also have signs up in the play areas to make sure the dogs don’t lick you where you can get infected and have hand sanitizer everywhere. This seems just like good precaution but its also consistent with puppy mill dogs. I’m all for free market capitalism but I can see now why people want these stores banned. Their profit is generated by exploiting people’s desires for puppies, and those dogs only have a tight window to maximize that return. Once they miss that window they are sent back to the breeder or god knows what.

TLDR: Petland is known to have bad business practices and my experience at Petland Webster was consistent with these reports.
