UH Students looking to provide IT solutions to a small, local business. It’s two semesters of required coursework for us, but free stuff for you :)

Hello all,

We’re a group of UH students in the CIS program in need of a small business to provide an IT solution (like a searchable database) to. We had one lined up as of last semester, but it fell through due to illness, so we’re in a bit of a pinch. I’m hoping that this is a good place to seek a replacement, but please do advise if it isn’t and we need to post elsewhere.

Details:

  • We need a business with a physical location and digital data (spreadsheets and the like). They have to be willing to communicate with us on a fairly regular basis so we know if we’re hitting the mark for their needs.
  • We are unable to work with non-profits/charities or businesses that have worked with UH students in the past due to course requirements.
  • This is essentially a project management class, the spring semester will involve analyzing your business’ needs and providing the planning/documentation for a solution. Fall semester will be the execution of the plan and providing your business with the output of our work.
  • There are a few things we are not able to do: payroll/inventory software and point-of-sales (POS) systems.
  • The professor typically assigns groups at the beginning of the semester, but we were proactive and selected our members based on grades and ability; we want to do good work.

This link shows the overview of the CIS degree for those that are curious. We’re sophomore/junior year students and this is for CIS 3343.

Please DM me if you are interested, or post any questions you might have and I’ll be happy to address your concerns. We don’t yet have a lot of detail about the requirements (class starts next week) but we will shortly. Thank you!
