Daily dose of Yordan (Game 30)

At bat 1: 4 pitch strikeout swinging

At bat 2: 1 pitch infield hit to pitcher (Knees 🏃‍♀️) later thrown out at 2nd on a fielder’s choice

At bat 3: 3 pitch strikeout swinging

At bat 4: 5 pitch strikeout looking

Overall a very underwhelming day for Yordan today, and he certainly looked like it in his at bats. He was extremely aggressive, swinging early and often in the count, but NYY was feeding him pitches low and away, which he didn’t hesitate to swing at, leading to a bunch of early strikeouts. He did have that one infield blooper that he hustled out, which was encouraging to see, shows his knees are back and look good. He just looked like he wasn’t recognizing the pitches today, hopefully tomorrow goes differently for him and the Astros.

Daily dose of Yordan (Game 29)

At bat 1: 6 pitch strikeout swinging

At bat 2: 3 pitch single to center

At bat 3: 4 pitch double play to second

At bat 4: 6 pitch single to center

Another great game for Yordan. While he did strike out pretty badly on a pitch in the dirt from German in his first at bat, he did follow it up with two well hit singles into center field, as well as a nicely lit ground ball that would have probably been a single without the shift. He was always in control of the at bat all 4 times, and it was very encouraging to see him do that. Overall while the extra base hits weren’t there for Yordan and the Astros today, they both had encouraging signs today, which will definitely translate to future results.

Daily dose of Yordan (Game 26)

At bat 1: 2 pitch single to center

At bat 2: 9 pitch single to center

At bat 3: 3 pitch groundout to second (shift)

At bat 4: 3 pitch strikeout swinging

At bat 5: 6 pitch flyout to center.

Once again, another no homer game for Yordan. And as always, he managed to contribute in other ways, whether it be a 9 pitch single with 3 foul balls to score a run, or hit a couple deep flyballs into center that should have been doubles. Yordan once again displayed that elite selective aggressiveness he has, chasing good pitches early for hits while also keeping a good batting eye later in the count. So while we all want for him to hit home runs, we should also at the same time acknowledge how unique of a hitter he is that even with a pretty long home run drought, he’s still easily a positive force and a consistent bat.

Also mods pls we need a Yordan flair for when he wins MVP and triple crown in a couple years. Cristian Javier is kinda similar but he doesn’t look the same.

Daily dose of Yordan (Game 23)

At bat 1: 3 pitch strikeout swinging

At bat 2: 3 pitch sacrifice fly left, 1 RBI

At bat 3: 2 pitch flyout to left

At bat 4: 7 pitch double to left

While it may look like a meh night for Yordan, with just the bloop double to show for his 4 at bats, I still saw a lot of good in his 4 at bats. Yes, he was a bit overly aggressive early on, leading to a quick K and some early flyballs, but he did seem to adjust for his last at bat, which was a trademark Yordan at bat. He got himself into a 2-2 count but then worked back with a tough foul and a borderline ball before roping one into center for a double. Overall while the numbers don’t say it his ability to adjust as he did mid game to work with what the pitchers gave him is extremely promising to see, and should pay dividends coming forwards.

Daily dose of Yordan (Game 22)

At bat 1: 5 pitch double to right, RBI

At bat 2: 3 pitch single to center

At bat 3: 5 pitch strikeout swinging

At bat 4: 5 pitch single to center

Overall another great day for Yordan. Today was just overall a perfect game fundamentals wise, as he was locating and taking the outside pitches for strikes, and taking what the pitchers gave him (low fastballs on both of his singles) and dumping it into left center for a hit. Even on his one strikeout I was pleased with how he was fouling off the pitches high in the zone with a two strike count before missing on his one kryptonite zone low and away, if you can even call it that. I also was really impressed with his double to deep right, it definitely looked gone of the bat and he did a nice job running on the hit. In total it was a masterful night for Yordan both fundamentally and in the box score, hopefully soon he hits home runs to go with his strike zone mastery, but you can’t really ask for more than what he did today.

Daily dose of Yordan (game 21)

At bat 1: 6 pitch strikeout looking

At bat 2: 5 pitch strikeout looking

At bat 3: 3 pitch hit by pitch

At bat 4: 5 pitch strikeout swinging

A bit of a late release on this DDoY, I had to scrub through the game broadcasts to analyze some of his strikeouts for a second time. Obviously while the box score line doesn’t look pretty, it definitely looked like he was tracking and knew what pitches were in and out of the zone, he just didn’t capitalize. Yordan has these games where it’s obvious that he sees the ball, but he’s just passive. Today was one of those days, as evidenced by his second at bat, where he didn’t even lift the bat off his shoulder. Overall while it was a disappointing game, he still was recognizing and analyzing the pitches, he just didn’t do much with them. Hopefully next game he capitalizes, as he’s definitely getting good pitches.

Daily dose of Yordan (Game 20)

At bat 1: 2 pitch single to center, RBI

At bat 2: 7 pitch strikeout swinging

At bat 3: Intentional Walk

At bat 4: 3 pitch triple to right, 3 RBI

At bat 5: 2 pitch double play to second

Once again Yordan had another great game. Today he did seem to keep the aggressiveness of yesterday, leading to similar results. The bases loaded triple he hit in particular was a joy to watch, it almost was a home run into deeeeeeeeeeeeep center. Also his double play was on a hard hit ball low in the zone, but it found glove, which happens, nothing you can really do about it. Even his strikeout was encouraging to see, as he worked back from a 1-2 count into a full one with 2 fouls before swinging at a high curveball. No homer once again, but did the next best thing, glad to see him (and by default the Astros) are clicking again and showing the Angels who owns the AL central.

Side note: I can’t find the Yordan flair, I will use this Cristian Javier as a stopgap until one is added or I can find it. If someone could direct me to the Yordan flair if there is one (or advocate for one if there isn’t) that would be great.

Daily dose of Yordan (Game 19)

At bat 1: 2 pitch groundout to second

At bat 2: 3 pitch HBP

At bat 3: 4 pitch double to left.

At bat 4: 5 pitch flyout to center

Another pretty good game for Yordan. He did seem to be a bit more aggressive today, but he still displayed the elite control of the zone we all love. His 5th at bat flyout looked like a home run off the bat, and while his opposite field double was kind of a blooper, I was really encouraged by the types of pitches he was taking and the ones he was swinging at. His ability to take pitches high in the zone and make the defense pay for shifting is part of the reason he’s so deadly, and he displayed it exceptionally here on the double. Obviously while we all want him to hit home runs, what he’s doing right now should be really good to see.
