The response from HEB regarding their inability to require masks in their stores

“I appreciate the feedback and truly hope to earn your business. Sir, this has been a tough issue to solve. We have customers on both sides of the opinion’s, and many have become verbally abusive and even physically in some stores. I have been personally told by customers HEB does not honor the rights they fought for in the war, told they have medical concerns with mask, and I was violating their rights and HIPPA laws, and just told they do not care call the police and get out of their face. Then when we ask officers “HPD” to help they said do not call us this is a Harris County Ordinance! Harris county officers do not work Kingwood. So, this being the case, we are not in the position to be the police.

Our company does support the Ordinance and we offer mask at both entry points. We expect our employees to wear mask and hold them accountable for doing so. We offer mask and inform customers of the Ordinance in place. However, when it comes to making them leave, due to the way many have reacted we have stopped doing so. Our safety is priority, we do not want our leaders at risk for the abuse we have all taken the last several months.

Sorry I cannot provide a better solution; we are doing the best we can with the hand we are dealt.”
