If you’re a registered Houston voter in River Oaks, the Galleria area, Westchase, Briar Forest, the Energy Corridor and points in between, there’s a special election happening today to choose a replacement for our council member Greg Travis. See here for a district map. More directly, your can check the county elections website. If you click “Sample Ballot” and a search for your name/address shows an active sample ballot, then they’ve been expecting you in this election.

There are nominally five candidates running, but I never found anything campaign related for Hank Taghizadeh who I guess filled out the paperwork as a vanity exercise. After early voting, turnout is underwhelming, even by local election standards. So if you haven’t voted yet, know that your individual ballot has more leverage than usual to steer the results.

FYI if you’re a registered voter who resides between the Energy Corridor and River Oaks, we have a special election happening right now to pick a replacement for council member Greg Travis (see previous thread here for a candidate list). These polling locations will be open until 10 pm tonight:

• 926 Country Place Drive (Nottingham Park)
• 2424 South Voss Road
• 1625 W Loop S (La Quinta)
• 1001 Preston Street (Harris County Administration)

So far, voters have turned out at a blistering rate of . . . less than 2%. LOL Well, that just means that your individual vote will have even more leverage on the results than it would in a normal election.

After today, voting resumes tomorrow and on Election Day, January 25.
