Like many, I’ve decided to stop following the Texans organization, and probably the NFL all together for a while. I can’t say forever, because I really do enjoy pro football, and I refuse to root for another team other than my hometown team, but I can’t support ownership as bad as this with my time and money.
This whole situation has been incredibly toxic and hard to follow. I’ve been a fan since 1999 when the NFL approved the city of Houston to have an expansion team, so I’ve been through all the ups and downs (there have been a lot of downs), and this situation is by far the most disheartening. It feels like we’re regressing because ownership is no longer committed to winning football. Cal would rather surround himself with people who strengthen the echo chamber that Easterby helped build, all while completely alienating the fan base.
I imagine Cal, along with all the other billionaires in America, has only seen his wealth grow during the pandemic, so it’s easy for him to think he’s doing great while living in his bubble surrounded by a bunch of yes men and a snake.
Like Watson, I want to see this franchise succeed, but it’s a lost cause if the McNair family can’t make some drastic cultural changes. From what we’ve witnessed, they don’t want to, so I’m going to use my extra time to better my mental health and stop rooting for an organization that has shown it really doesn’t care about about the fans or a winning culture.
I truly hope the Texans become a Super Bowl winning franchise (under new ownership hopefully), but I will never forget how poorly this whole thing has been handled. Just needed to vent somewhere, thanks for reading. ✌🏼
