Chas McCormick

Can we talk about all the hate(edit: more of disrespect than hate, but the idea is the same) chas has gotten this season and especially recently.

Chas has a 106 OPS+, 111 WRC+ and is an above average defender in CF. I know jake has been playing more in CF lately, and hopefully he turns it around, but for a guy hitting at the back end of your lineup, chas is very solid option if jake cant figure it out. I mean, there’s plenty of playoff teams that would love to have a guy with those numbers batting 7th/8th in their lineups. Yet the obsession with finding a replacement lately has been so crazy, you’d think he was the worst CF in the league.

I understand there’s always gonna be some wild speculation about trades around the deadline. It happens every year, with every team. But I’ve seen some downright insulting names thrown out there (by big astros social media presences) being touted as big CF upgrades. Adolis garcia and Harrison Bader are two off the top of my head as im writing this that I remember seeing multiple times in the last 24 hours. Garcia is even worse at striking and getting on base than chas is, and those are the 2 things I see chas get trashed for the most. And Bader has been a bad hitter this year.

I just don’t get it. Is chas an elite CF? No. And if there were real, cost effective upgrade out there, then yeah CF was probably the next position to upgrade. But to me that speaks more to our depth than it does any sort of problem with chas as a player.

I just think Chas gets a lot more hate than he deserves. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk on Mr. McCormick
