Elderly relatives transferring internationally through Houston and FREAKING out about it.

Hello!

My aunty and uncle are travelling from UK to New Zealand via Munich & San Francisco, then New Zealand to UK via Houston and Frankfurt and they are freaking out about the transfers in America.

Particularly the Houston one as they only have 2 hours. Is it true they have to go through customs, pick up their bags and then check back through again? And if this is the case will 2 hours be enough for a couple in their 80’s?

Is anyone able to talk me through what they can expect so I can send this to them and at least when it all happens it won’t be so unknown to them! They are switching airlines in America so flying Air NZ to Houston, then Lufthansa from there to UK.

Similarly for San Francisco, though I know this thread is for Houston so I will ask that elsewhere, but just incase any of you have travelled internationally in America and can answer for me.

Thank you so much.
