Anyone else concerned with NMBYs ruining Texas’s first high-speed rail??

It goes without saying that Houston has one of the worst public transportation systems in the entire United States. Cities with fewer people manage more ambitious public transportation systems. This bullet train to Dallas can fundamentally change the way Texans, and particularly Houstonians/ Dallas people, think about public transportation. If we fail to be ambitious in our demands, expect there to be more of our money wasted on expanding highway lanes, our land underutilized on parking lots, and sprawl to accelerate. Leaving behind a patchwork of suburbs and strip malls to what should be one of America’s best cities.

We need this train to fundamentally shake up the car-centric mindset of Houston. We cannot let cars dominate our city. I am not saying cars don’t have a place in our city. They do. But our priority as a city has to be more ambitious than 2-ton piece of polluting metal per person. I am so tired of seeing other cities walk by as our heads remain firmly buried in the sand. This is just a rant, but I do think we need people as vocal as these NMBYs in favor of this train to show that we really do support the project.
